Elderly Care

Upon finishing my Caregiving course, i and my friends have decided to volunteer in an elderly care institution in Biao, Guianga, Tugbok District. We have selected Care for the Elderly Foundation, Inc. as suggested by those who undergone training there.  There are 44 elderly under the care of the foundation, mostly with severe alzheimer's disease.

We were given a chance to know everyone in the institution and it was heart melting to know most of the elders brought here was either abandoned or forgotten bu their families.

I was assigned to a patient who was just brought by his son in the institution five days ago. He and his wife used to live with their eldest son before they were endorsed at the home for the aged. 

He was crying while narrating how he took care of his family but still ended here. At the age of 84, he is still able to take careof himself but can hardly hear and read.  We spent our first day together talking while escorting him to walk around.  

Looking at them reminds me of my grandparents. I was ten when my Grandpa and grandma passed away.  I was saddened when i realized i was not able to take care of them the way i take care of the people in the home for the aged. If given a chance, i would have taken care of them instead.
