Flashflood kills girl in Davao; 2 more missing

MANILA, Philippines - A flashflood hit a village in Sta. Cruz town in Davao del Sur on Monday afternoon, leaving a girl dead and 50 people homeless.

Police said joint rescue teams recovered the body of Ellen Mae Iligan, a 1st year high school student, at around 10 p.m. Monday.

Authorities said the flashflood hit Barangay Darong in Sta Cruz town around 10 p.m. Reports said the Sibulan River overflowed due to continuous rains in the province.

Police said a total of 15 houses, occupied by at least 50 people, were swept by the flashflood.

Rescue teams were still searching for 2 more missing residents, including a pregnant woman.
