FYI: Additional second of your time this year

Before the year ends, you should know that a second will be added to our time this year. Here's how and why.

"A leap second will be added to atomic clocks worldwide at 23:59:60 (or near midnight) at Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) on December 31, 2008. This is the 24th leap second to be added since the first leap second was added in 1972. This is also the first leap second in three years.
Leap seconds are added to keep the atomic clocks synchronized with the Earth's rotation. This is because the Earth rotates at a slower pace over time while the atomic clocks do not slow down. Therefore, the leap second adjusts the clocks to ensure that civil time (used by clocks) is as close as possible to mean solar time (the mean sun’s hour angle)." (

Just one second, but it counts. Just a thought. If you are given a chance to have an extra second of your life. what would you do? Me? I think i'll spare it for a second breathe. Why? Because, for a second, i'd like to feel the essence of life.
