Hogs in Davao del Sur town die of unknown cause

Residents of Sta. Maria town in Davao del Sur are worried after many of the pigs that they were raising have died mysteriously. In Sitio Sala-Sala in Barangay Pongpong, 40 pigs have reportedly died since December. Residents said that their pigs suddenly appeared weak, bleeding from the nose then died.
The town’s agriculture office said that a veterinarian would be sent to the area to investigate the mysterious swine deaths. The town’s agriculture office meanwhile advised residents to immediately bury their dead hogs and to refrain from butchering the dead swine for food while the investigation is ongoing on the cause.
