9 Davao del Norte villages under state of calamity

Nine barangays in a town in Davao del Norte were placed under a state of calamity after flood waters inundated the area on Tuesday.

The local government of Kapalong town placed 9 barangays under a state of calamity after knee-deep waters forced at least 700 families to flee their homes.

An overflowing Pagsabanan River also triggered evacuation in Barangay Poblacion.

No casualties were reported, but incessant rains destroyed hectares of crops.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), meanwhile, said at least 26 houses were totally destroyed in Kapalong by the flooding.

Meanwhile, about 1,500 families from Barangay Guadalupe in Carmen town sought higher ground.

Nine people died due to floods caused by heavy rains.

Two persons were reported missing, while 4 were injured.

Weather bureau PAGASA on Thursday said Visayas and Mindanao will experience better weather condition since the tail-end of the cold front has diffused. – with a report from Francis Magbanua, ABS-CBN News Southern Mindanao
