2 HPG-12 Police, gunned down by armed men in Makilala, North Cotabato

Makilala, North Cotabato - Two Philippine National Police - Highway Patrol Group (PNP-HPG) personnel died in an ambush in Makilala, North Cotabato on Thursday morning, a police official said. Senior Inspector Joyce Birri, Makilala Police Station commander, said a group of alleged New People's Army (NPA) rebels on board a vehicle strafed a checkpoint manned by HPG personnel along a national highway in Sitio Patulangon, Barangay Malasila at around 9:20 a.m. The fatalities were identified as PO3 Sumugat and PO1 Pablo. Three other personnel were injured and rushed to a hospital in Kidapawan. HPG personnel are tasked to look out for stolen or unregistered vehicles. (with report from Edwin Sevidal, dzMM)
